The main characteristic of old dubai was the windtowers seen from sea as open raised hands welcoming their guests.The towers were rectangular or square and where built on top of the main rooms of traditional houses.Cross walls were built between the corners,giving four triangular openings to catch the breeze.The towers were devised to give ventilation to a house,as traditionally the windows of the living rooms were not opened to the outside to retain privacy.The windtowers varied in design from house to house,or even from one room to another.Generally the bedroom windtowers was higher than the others and had more decoration
