Jambavan Cave:
A very old , natural cave , located in a village , near Haiti cement factory. It is 15 kilometres from Porbandar city.
What’s natural about the cave is the naturally formed mud shivlings (not one , but many ) , formed from the water that keeps dripping from the roof of the cave. Besides , mud shivlings, there are tunnels which goes to Dwarka, Junagadh and Somnath. This cave is not included in Gujarat tourism packages. Infact, the guide who accompanied us did not know about this cave. An auto driver mentioned about this cave.
Historical significance:
Jambavan, who lived both in tretayug and dwaparyug, was a great devotee of Lord Rama. He helped Lord Ram and Hanuman in finding Sita, for which , he was granted boon to live a long life and have immense strength.
He was in possession of a jewel, which he acquired from a lion, killed by him. The possession of this precious jewel led Lord Krishna reach this cave in disguise. Fierce battle took place between them for 28 days in this cave. On the 28th day, he realised and recognised Lord Krishna. Upon realisation , he gave away the jewel and his daughter ,jambavati in marriage to Lord Krishna. Jambavati was Lord Krishna’s third wife.
Outside the cave, there is a samadhi of guru Ramdasji who meditated. Spiritual books referred by this guru can be seen. An interesting aspect here are the clocks offered by devotees. There are so many clocks hung on the walls which were all gifted by the devotees.
Kirti Mandir:
Kirti Mandir, the birth place of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, is a typical Gujarat haveli . Kasturba Gandhi’s house is at a walkable distance from Kirti Mandir.
Sudama Mandir:
Not many are aware that Porbandar is also the birth place of Sudama, the pious friend of Lord Krishna. This temple is in Porbandar city. The temple has a special floor, which is said to be a sin – eraser when crossed.
